ERDF in Practice

The Role of CLG

CLG is the designated Managing Authority for all ERDF structural funds programmes and specific community initiatives in England.

The Managing Authority is the body designated by the Member State that will ensure Structural Funds programmes are implemented and that their activity conforms with EC Regulations.

BERR is responsible for overall European Structural Funds Policy.

CLG houses a central team (European Policy & Programmes Division) to act in a corporate role for ERDF, whilst delegating day-to-day management responsibility to the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) where the programmes actually are delivered on the ground.

CLG provides the framework for how ERDF Programmes should be delivered, reporting collectively to Ministers and the European Commission, whilst the RDAs set the priorities with local partners and ensure the programmes and its objectives are implemented effectively
